'Bring Me the Head of Sockets
the Clown'
Derek VOWLES
Sometimes
Y Productions
vowlesx@aol.com
This animation piece was created by Derek for his 1996 Senior
Thesis at Loyola Marymount University. He used Macromedia
Director 4, Adobe Photoshop, Strata Studio Pro (titles) and
his trusty black and white Apple OneScanner. The sound was
recorded and mixed in ProTools by his friend Doug Traeger.
This piece was done originally for 16 mm (shot off the screen
with a Bolex camera), and later output from Director as raw
QuickTime, edited in Adobe Premiere, and coded in DV format.
This film serves as a sequel of sorts to Socket's original
film appearance "Sockets, the World's Angriest
Clown, Meets the Boy Who Would Not Smile." For more information
on Sockets and to see screenshots of both films and a full
QuickTime of Sockets II (compressed with Sorenson Squeeze
2.0), visit Sometimes Y Productions' webpage.

'Kids for the Bay' clips
Michael
GARRIGUES
Foglifter Media
foglifter@aol.com
This was a series of clips from a promotional video on a
local environmental education group called 'Kids
for the Bay.' It is being used both as a fundraising tool
and as an introduction to their programs for bay area schools.
The footage was shot in miniDV with a Canon XL-1. This was
Michael's first Final Cut Pro project, and was cut mostly
in FCP 2. He wanted to do something that would benefit the
community for his first effort, so he went down to the San
Francisco Volunteer Center (www.vcsf.org)
to do his research. Funding was provided by the Earth
Island Institute.
Michael's background is in corporate marketing and writing.
He is currently looking to create more pieces for other non-profits.

that Alec is currently working on. He is filming the documentary
in 16x9 format. Two cameras were used: a DSR-500 WL and a
TRV-900 with an anamorphic lens. The race sequence against
the Lambourghini was filmed at the Watsonville Airport. The
piece was cut with EditDV.

Robert
"Bob" FRANCO
Endorphin
Productions
bob@endorphin.com
This was a sequence of clips from Bob Franco's website (Endorphin.com)
videos. The camera used was a Sony DVCam DSR 500WS. He uses
both Media 100 and Final Cut Pro systems to edit, and Media
Cleaner Pro 4 and Sorenson Pro for encoding the video
to QuickTime progressive download files. The website is primarily
dedicated to the presentation of quality video news and entertainment
(many in 16x9) taking place in the Monterey, Carmel, and Big
Sur areas. (Broadband is advised.)
By the way, his first feature, "California P.I.",
a goofy comedy shot primarily in Carmel and Big Sur, has a
trailer on the CA PI page
which can be accessed from the home page. He will release
it first on his website in segments much like his documentary,
"Big Sur The Way It Was".
