About the project: The theme of the DVD is catch and release flyfishing around the globe for various species of fresh and saltwater fishes. One of the vignettes was an experimental trailer for an Eco / Adventure / Thriller. This was his demo reel. The footage was shot with a GL-1 DV, edited in FCP and finished to DVD-R with DVD Studio Pro. On two of the films he used an anamorphic (16x9) lens for true widescreen viewing.

2 Marty Cooper

'Fly Daddy Al'
Marty COOPER
Green Eggs
marty@cooper.name

Marty is 14 years old and has been making videos for three years. He's a freshman at Menlo-Atherton High School and is a skateboarder. Making skateboard videos is how he got started. With his brother, Scott, he films, edits and produces a local skateboarding series called Green Eggs. This video, 'Fly Daddy Al,' is a two-minute, rap video he made for and about his father, Alan, who is a private pilot. Marty wrote and performed the words and music, filmed and edited the video as a Christmas present for his dad. He got the silver teeth effect by wrapping them with aluminum foil. He used a Sony TRV-11 with an ultra-fisheye lens and did all of the editing in iMovie. Recently he upgraded to Final Cut Pro 3 and is doing all of his new work in that program. Watch for the next Green Eggs video at your local skateboard store.

'The Bubbleman'

Point of View Productions

This five-minute piece focuses on the singular art of Sterling Johnson, a lawyer turned Bubble Artist, who creates whimsical and fascinating bubble art using a simple soap mixture and his hands alone. This project is a real departure from her usual work, which is primarily in the area of long form, activist documentaries. However, she was so fascinated by Sterling that she felt compelled to make a piece featuring his unique talent.

The video features an original music score by Tom Romero.

"The Bubbleman" was shot entirely in digital video on a Sony VX-1000, and edited in Final Cut Pro 2.0.

This pre-kindergarten segment is from a 10-minute promotional video for a private school. The entire piece is "found" situations — no set-ups. Mark used a Sony TRV900, Sennheiser ME64, Mac 500khz G4, Final Cut Pro and Photoshop.

Mark does Media Consulting and Video Production.

The "PSM DVD" project was the first official project for 3rd Light Digital Media. This DVD was made for PSM Magazine, a monthly publication for the PlayStation 2 game console, and is being distributed nationwide. The bulk of the project involved creating custom, interactive menus using LightWave 3D, Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects and Final Cut Pro. The final DVD was authored in DVD Studio Pro. In addition to DVD authoring, 3rd Light Digital Media also provides video services.

'Inside the Actor's Head' excerpt
K.C. SMITH

Film Arts Foundation
kcs@filmarts.org

Written, Directed and Edited by K.C. Smith, “Inside the Actor’s Head” pairs two Bay Area filmmakers, Chris Brown and J.P. Allen, in a playful satire of independent filmmaking and method acting. Chris, best known for his film “Metal,” (Mill Valley Film Festival 1999, winner- Best Picture, Pan African Film Festival) willfully subjects himself to the probing interrogation of television journalist Kurt Nelson. The short video also re-unites filmmaker’s K.C. Smith and Allen, who worked together on Allen’s feature film, “Coffee and Language.” All of the filmmakers became acquainted through the Film Arts Foundation in San Francisco, where K.C. Smith serves as the Production and Post-Production Facility Manager.

K.C. is currently developing his first feature film project, scheduled to go into production Winter 2002.
